About Us
Illinois Fisher - Helping people catch more fish!

Introduction
Illinois Fisher is a site dedicated to all the people in Illinois looking for information on their
local fisheries. Bass, catfish, crappie, bluegill, carp, walleye, and all other catchable fish
will be treated the same.
Who is behind this site?
A country boy who is always looking for a good place to fish and some good people to talk
about it with. My name is Jake Hanner and I grew up outside the small village of Kell, IL. I
now live in Effingham and I love it here except for the long drive to the lakes. I am a
Southern Illinois University Carbondale Graduate (2008) and I am now a graduate student at
Eastern Illinois University.
Fishing Background
My first memory is of me catching a little large mouth bass on a yellow popper (rigged with
a bobber) and releasing it after showing it off to my mom. Although this is my first memory, I
started fishing long before that and I now fish as much as possible. When I go on a fishing
trip with friends or family I feel more like a guide to them. Simply put, I spend more time
baiting hooks, rigging lines, locating fish, and fixing birds nests for other people when I go
fishing. I do not have a strong competitive streak so it is very easy for me to help others
succeed.
I started flyfishing a few years ago and it is currently my favorite way of catching (I usually
do not go fishing, I go catching). It doesn't get any better than catching a big fish on a fly
you tied the night before. I have caught several fish on my flyrod but my 2 best are a 6 lb
bass and a 12 lb common carp.
Trips I take -
I go to Minnesota every year mainly to catch monster pike but I must say the bass fishing is
almost as much fun up there. Everyone targets walleye leaving huge bass unharmed.
After spending 2 years in college in Florida I came to love inland saltwater fishing. Now I go
back as much as I can to hook into redfish, flounder, and trout mainly.
